Adama Traore shines on Barcelona return

Barcelona boss Xavi was full of praise for Adama Traore as the Spanish star made his return to the Camp Nou

The Catalan giants needed a win to move above Los Colchoneros and into the top four of the league rankings.

It goes without saying that Barça achieved just that with a 4-2 home triumph against the reigning champions, breaking a five-match losing streak in La Liga versus Atleti in style.

What a way to make a debut for Adama Traore! Given the recent off-field squabbles with Ousmane Dembele, the Spaniard brought with him everything that Barcelona craved.

While he is frequently criticised for possessing nothing but pace and crossing, when the two are combined, few opponents can stop him. On his debut, he grabbed an assist, and that too against a competitor like Atletico de Madrid. His impact led Diego Simeone to rethink his tactical setup, which should demonstrate how amazing he was.

Traore notoriously made just one La Liga game after rising through the ranks of La Masia in 2013, but his January comeback has been touted as the start of a new era for the 26-year-old Catalan native.

“Physically he is an animal, a beast. He is a pure winger and he will help us. He is a great signing for the team. Adama makes the difference. He has power, strength, he dribbles at opponents and he’s solid in defence.”

Xavi also reserved praise for Aubameyang as he was thrown into the action with a 30 minute cameo in front of the Camp Nou crowd.
