Since the Saudi Arabian transfer market is open until September 23, teams there are still attempting to acquire players from the continent even though the summer transfer window is closed in the rest of Europe.

In recent years, Saudi Arabian teams have shown interest in the emerging talents from La Masia, as previously reported. Additionally, they seem to be considering a late move for one of Barcelona’s most promising young players.

In fact, Al-Nassr is considering a late bid for Barcelona midfield sensation Marc Bernal, according to Saudi-based publication Okaz Sports. Under Hansi Flick, Bernal, regarded as one of the greatest players to emerge from La Masia in recent years, earned his first-team debut the previous season.

The youthful phenom hasn’t played for the Catalans in more than a year, though, after suffering an ACL tear three games into the season. Bernal is anticipated to return to the team this weekend when Barcelona plays Valencia following the international break, having completely healed.

Barcelona plans to extend Bernal’s contract, which now expires in 2026. Strangely, not long after his injury, Barcelona expressed their desire to offer him a new contract, albeit a formal agreement has not yet been reached. The salary cap problems at Barcelona are probably the cause. This summer, the Blaugrana registered Bernal as a senior player, but they haven’t made an announcement about the deal.

With a €500 million release clause, Bernal’s management had told Football España that an agreement had been reached to extend his contract until 2029. After suffering a devastating injury at Vallecas more than a year ago, the 18-year-old is expected to start soon.

The coaching staff approved Bernal’s return to action this week after he finished preseason with the first team but did not play in any games. Bernal has been cleared to return to action since August 7. Bernal will be gradually brought back into action by Barcelona, much like Gavi was.
