Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen has expressed his desire to remain at the club beyond the current season, with his contract set to expire next summer.
Andreas Christensen Shows Loyalty: Hoping to Remain at Barcelona
The Danish centre-back, who joined Barça from Chelsea in 2022, is entering the final year of his deal and has yet to receive clarity on his future.
However, Christensen made it clear that his priority is to continue in Catalonia.
Speaking while on international duty with Denmark, the 29-year-old said he is focused solely on performing well for both club and country.
“I hope everything works out this way. I don’t have a Plan B, but right now I’m just concentrating on playing and contributing to the team,” Christensen told Tipsbladet.
“Of course, I’d like to know what’s going on, but for now I’m focused on what I can control.”
The defender added that the uncertainty around his contract has not affected his mindset or performances.
“It doesn’t create insecurity for me. I think we’re in a good position.
Naturally, you want to have things under control, but it’s not something that affects my daily life,” he explained.
Christensen’s time at Barcelona has been hampered by recurring injuries, which have limited his consistency on the pitch.
His future could depend on how much he contributes during the remainder of the season, with the club still evaluating its defensive options.
Despite being uncertain about a new deal, Christensen revealed that he hopes to finish his career in his homeland someday.
“Ideally, I’d like to end my career at Brøndby, but it depends on my family and my situation at the time,” he said.
“I still feel I have a lot to give and can compete at a high level.”
For now, the Dane remains focused on proving his value to Barcelona and earning the chance to extend his stay at the Camp Nou.
