With a hat trick against Nantes, Angel Di Maria has been Juventus’ hero, helping the team advance to the last 16 of the Europa League

However, this season, he could have played with another team because he had made a commitment to Barca. El Fideo had Barcelona as his top option, according to the Spanish publication Relevo, after learning that PSG had no plans to renew his contract last June and that he would have become a free agent.

He had several conversations with coach Xavi and had formally committed to the Blaugrana, but the team was unable to close the deal, so he made the decision to join Juventus.

Di Maria agreed to a one-year deal with Juventus, paying an estimated compensation of €7 million. At the conclusion of the current campaign, he will be a free agent, and there have been no reports of a potential extension.

After the Europa League draw, Juventus board member Gianluca Pessotto expressed his desire for Di Maria to ink a new contract and remain with The Bianconeri to Sky Sport. Di Maria, 35, has frequently expressed his desire to complete his career with Rosario Central, the team where he was born and raised in Argentina.

He joined Juventus in 2021 with the intention of playing one more season in Europe to get ready for the World Cup, which Argentina would go on to win with one goal against France in the championship game.
