A deal to keep Barcelona loanee Clement Lenglet before the FIFA Club World Cup is nearing completion for Atletico Madrid. The France international joined on a season-long loan from La Blaugrana and played in 34 games across all competitions in the 2024–25 campaign.
Lenglet wants to stay in Madrid because Hansi Flick is satisfied with his existing defensive alternatives and he has no place back in Barcelona. Enrique Cerezo, the club president of Atletico Madrid, has hinted that a resolution is imminent during the two clubs’ discussions. “Barca owns the player Lenglet. Let’s chat. According to Sport, he clarified, “I think there’ll be an agreement for him to stay with us.”
Lenglet and Barcelona are currently negotiating the termination of the French defender’s contract, which is set to expire in June 2026, according to Luis F. Rojo of MARCA.
The 29-year-old makes a large income of €16 million gross per year; therefore, these negotiations are not easy. Due to the club’s financial difficulties brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, player wages were postponed during one of the last renewals under Josep Maria Bartomeu.
Barcelona negotiating contract termination with Lenglet
To close a deal before the FIFA Club World Cup begins, Atletico Madrid is eager. According to Marca’s reports, the two clubs have now agree to let Lenglet leave Barcelona for nothing. His current Barcelona deal, which pays €16 million a year gross, is set to expire in June 2026 and has prevented him from selling.
In the next months, Barcelona is eager to deduct his pay from their salary bill in order to pay for a number of new renewals and adhere to La Liga’s financial regulations. To incorporate Lenglet into their Club World Cup plans, Atletico Madrid will hold off until as near to the June 10 deadline as feasible.
