Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has delivered a bold verdict on the La Liga title race, declaring Barcelona the undisputed best team in Spain following his side’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.

Simeone Crowns Barcelona as La Liga’s Best After Atletico’s Derby Win

Despite securing a crucial derby win, Simeone reserved his highest praise for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, who have made a flawless start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Barcelona have won all seven of their opening league fixtures, accumulating 21 points and scoring an astonishing 31 goals.

This remarkable tally represents the best seven-game start in the club’s history. Only Sevilla, who netted 40 goals in their opening seven matches during the 1940/41 season, have ever managed a higher total at this stage of a La Liga campaign.

Simeone admitted that Barcelona currently operates on a different level. “It looks like Barcelona is playing a different sport from the one we’re playing,” he stated.

The Argentine coach highlighted Barcelona’s attacking versatility, noting that despite lacking a traditional number nine, Raphinha has thrived as a central forward, scoring 12 goals. He also praised Lamine Yamal, who has added another dimension with seven goals.

The Atletico boss further emphasised Barcelona’s relentless approach, observing that they press aggressively even in away stadiums and show no fear of taking risks.

“It seems like their way of receiving a goal makes them better,” Simeone added. “They’re the best right now.”

Simeone’s assessment carries significant weight, coming immediately after his team strengthened their own position with a victory over Real Madrid.

While Atletico’s win bolsters their campaign, Simeone’s comments underscore the sheer scale of Barcelona’s early-season dominance.
