FC Barcelona has already begun plotting their moves for the 2026 summer transfer window, which finished less than a month ago. The center-forward position is one of the Blaugrana’s biggest worries going into the upcoming campaign, especially because Robert Lewandowski’s contract ends in June.

The notion of supporting Ferran Torres to take up the role in light of his recent outstanding performances as a No. 9 is being considered. However, Barcelona’s sports department is still searching the market for potential successors at this moment.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona is still closely monitoring Julian Alvarez, a striker for Atletico Madrid and Argentina. The newspaper claims that Joan Laporta, the president of Barça, is a big fan of the 2022 FIFA World Cup champion, who did well with Atletico in his 2024–2025 debut.

The 25-year-old Alvarez is highly regarded by Barcelona because to his flexibility, off-the-ball work rate, and goal-scoring ability.

Julian Alvarez has been linked with a move to Barcelona

Julian Alvarez’s agent stated in the summer that he would be delighted to play for the Catalan powerhouses, and he has been linked to a move to Barcelona throughout the year. The striker’s former boss has now fueled the fire by saying he’s always been a culer and that he doesn’t feel at ease at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone.

Although Alvarez has a deal with Atletico Madrid through the summer of 2030, any move for him won’t be inexpensive given that Los Rojiblancos paid up to €95 million to sign him from Manchester City the previous season.

Barcelona’s precarious financial situation may make it difficult to finance such a transfer for Alvarez the following season. Alvarez may be enticed to leave and sign with Real Madrid or Barcelona, Varas believes.

Throughout the season, there may be additional rumors of a move for Alvarez because Barcelona is anticipated to be looking for a new striker in the summer to replace Robert Lewandowski.
