As is already widely known, Barcelona is fervently attempting to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Club this summer. With the new season approaching with Hansi Flick in charge, the 21-year-old Spanish international has become the top priority to bolster the attacking left side.
But the young player’s €58–60 million release clause is viewed as a bit of a roadblock, and the growing competition for his talents adds to the difficulty. According to SPORT, Blaugrana has already made an offer to Athletic Club for €40 million, to be paid in two installments of €20 million each, plus Inigo Martinez (market value of €5 million) in exchange for the signing of the Spanish winger.
Barça is preparing a second proposal with a much higher budget, though, as they believe their first will be turned down.

Martinez will be included in the deal, and the Catalans are preparing a second offer worth a set fee of €55 million plus an additional €10 million in variables. With Martinez added, the operation’s overall worth would surpass Nico’s release clause by €65 million.
Nevertheless, Barcelona plans to pay the €55 million fixed price in two installments of €25 million and €30 million instead of paying the whole release clause amount all at once. Furthermore, according to journalist Jose Alvarez, the Catalans want to pay the Spaniard between €8 million and €15 million.
