One of Barça Atlètic’s most promising players, Unai Hernández, is about to join Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Arabian division. Although he has the opportunity to extend his contract for another two years, the young forward’s contract expires on June 30. Ramón Planes, the former sporting director of Barça and current important player in Al-Ittihad’s recruitment, has played a crucial role in this upcoming move. Hernández, who is only 20, feels that the Primera RFEF no longer challenges him and that it is time to advance to the top level, particularly because his chances of making the first squad in the near future appear slim.

In order to explain why the Montgat-born striker was left out of the squad for the game against Ourense, Barça Atletico coach Albert Sánchez said, “Unai is not focused here; his mind isn’t on the team.” At a crucial point in the discussions, it was decided that Hernández’s participation in the game would be detrimental. The player will join one of the most competitive teams in Saudi football and receive a high salary thanks to Al-Ittihad’s firm offer of €5 million, with possible add-ons to come.

Al-Ittihad is close to including the Barcelona player

Hernández, who has been essential for the B-team this season, was hoped to be retained by the Catalan club, who expected him to join the main squad in the forthcoming preseason. But Hernández has chosen to move, and Barça would gain a lot from the €5 million deal, which would provide them the opportunity to look at the winter transfer window, where Marcus Rashford is rumored to be a major target.

When Barça was in Saudi Arabia for the Supercopa de España, Al-Ittihad used the opportunity to meet with Deco and present their offer for the teenage forward, knowing that a number of European clubs were interested in signing Hernández once his contract expired. Since Hernández has already decided to depart, Barça thinks it would be better to sell him now for €5 million than to lose him for nothing in the summer. With further talks planned and the transfer proceeding without hiccups, things might go quite swiftly.
