Girona will reportedly receive a loan from Barcelona for their midfield player, Oriol Romeu. Romeu, who signs a three-year contract with the Catalan giants, cost an estimated €3.4 million (£2.9 million) to sign from Girona last summer. Romeu joined Barcelona after veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets left at the end of the 2022-2023 season.
Romeu had to make due with 17 starts out of 37 games across all competitions as he was unable to establish himself in Xavi’s squad. Romeu’s position in the Barcelona team doesn’t seem to have changed much despite the management switch to Hansi Flick.
The midfielder has also played for Chelsea for two seasons, Valencia for one, Stuttgart for another, and Southampton for seven seasons throughout his career.
Oriol Romeu lands in Barcelona to sign Girona contract
Oriol Romeu has arrived in Barcelona already. The midfield player signed a contract with Girona in the coming days after departing from Barcelona’s training camp in the United States on Friday. The star confirmed his return to Montilivi, the stadium where he had his best performances before departing for Barcelona, by arriving in Barcelona on Saturday morning.
Oriol Romeu played for the Girona team for only one season, following nearly ten years at Southampton. He developed into a vital member of the midfield under Michel. Due to the close agreement between the two teams, Barcelona has granted Oriol Romeu permission to return to Spain in order to finalize his loan move.
