Barcelona is becoming increasingly concerned about the left-back position, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo. Alejandro Balde’s performances this season have not pleased the club, as the Spaniard’s performance has significantly declined.

Furthermore, Barcelona does not have a trustworthy substitute. Although Gerard Martin has done well, he hasn’t shown the type of skill that will be adequate to compete with Balde in the long run. This has pushed Barcelona to hunt the market for a new left-back who can operate not just as a backup for Balde but also as a rival.

According to the report, Barcelona is monitoring Bayer Leverkusen’s Alejandro Grimaldo in light of this fact. Not very long ago, Barcelona were eager to recruit the former La Masia prodigy, but they lacked the funds to bring him back to Catalonia.

Barcelona ready to rival Bayern for Grimaldo

In recent seasons, Barcelona’s need for depth at left and right back has grown more evident as their ability to maintain balance throughout the back line has been hampered by injuries and inconsistent play. It is believed that in order to be competitive in both home and European contests, additional alternatives must be added to these areas.

It is also believed that the Catalan team is attacking wing reinforcements. Head coach Xavi Hernandez’s tactical changes, which emphasise wide players who can extend the pitch and contribute in both build-up play and in front of goal, are partially responsible for this.

Barcelona’s technical staff is still assessing possible additions in accordance with the team’s financial and athletic goals, even though no deals have been confirmed until the next window. As the transfer window draws near, further developments are anticipated; Grimaldo is still one of the possibilities being considered.
