Barcelona is still trying to get Jonathan Tah, a center-back for Bayer Leverkusen, but he has stated that he intends to leave the team on a free transfer this summer. Last summer, Tah—a key player in Leverkusen’s 2023–24 Bundesliga victory—was anticipated to depart the team.
Tah acknowledged that he could depart this year for free after Bayern Munich pursued a trade but ultimately failed to agree on a transfer fee.
The Premier League has expressed a lot of interest in a player whose arrival on a free transfer would represent a significant bargain, but the majority of the rumors have focused on a move to Barcelona and a connection with fellow countryman Hansi Flick.
Tah reaffirmed on Sunday that he will leave the team when his contract expires, sticking to his plan to leave this summer. He said, “Definitely,” in response to a reporter’s question about a summer departure. I decided at one point not to stay here and not to extend my contract, and that’s how things are going right now.”
Jonathan Tah to leave Bayer Leverkusen amid Barcelona links
Several teams, including Barcelona, have been connected to Tah, and prior rumors indicate that a trade is almost finalized. However, with Barcelona’s financial predicament still a concern ahead of the summer transfer window, those reports haven’t been as prevalent lately. Barca will also need to transfer players if they wish to expand their roster since they have too many central defenders on the roster.
It’s unclear if Barcelona will change their mind about making Tah an offer. It was thought to be almost certain in January, but because of their continuous registration problems—their pay cap has been lowered due to the ongoing Dani Olmo controversy—finding room for the German is by no means assured.
The outgoings could determine a lot. It is anticipated that former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen will be open to offers, while offers for Eric Garcia and perhaps Ronald Araujo—who is estimated to be available this summer for about €65 million (£55.7 million)—may be considered.
