In the summer transfer window, Barcelona intends to target the striker and center-back positions in Hansi Flick’s team. The current state of their finances will make it impossible to spend money on both positions, which is why efforts are being made to sign a free agent (or two).
Most usually, a center-back is acquired for nothing while a new striker is purchased for a significant sum of money. Links have been made in recent weeks with Marc Guehi and Ibrahima Konate, while Nico Schlotterbeck is another whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign.
Barcelona has also reportedly increased their interest in Schlotterbeck in recent weeks, according to reports from Germany (via Sport). Schlotterbeck joined Borussia Dortmund from Freiburg in 2022, but he hasn’t committed to a new deal yet.
Barcelona may have a decent chance of persuading him to sign as a free agent because he is reportedly hesitant to commit his future to the Bundesliga powerhouses because of rumored interest from other teams.
Barcelona want Dortmund defender Schlotterbeck
Ahead of the 2026–2027 season, Barcelona is reportedly searching the Bundesliga for a new defender, according to Spanish publication Fichajes. The Catalan team is reportedly interested in signing Schlotterbeck, a center-back for Borussia Dortmund, for the upcoming season.
It is believed that Barca is interested in the 25-year-old because of his ability to play with the ball and because he is a left-footed defender who adds alternatives to the backline.
According to reports, Schlotterbeck is delaying negotiations for a new contract at Signal Iduna Park, where his current one is scheduled to end in the summer of 2027. The Germany international is thought to aspire to advance in his career so that he can regularly contend for European championships.
According to reports, Schlotterbeck, the center-back for Borussia Dortmund, is drawing interest from teams outside of Flick’s table-topping Barcelona team.
The 25-year-old is apparently considered as a potential addition to Bayern Munich’s roster as they look to strengthen their squad after winning the German title the previous season.
For Schlotterbeck, whose reputation has grown after an outstanding three years at Dortmund thus far, choosing between Barca and Bayern could be quite challenging.
