Barcelona is looking to add a striker as they are ready to let go of Robert Lewandowski at the end of the current campaign. In recent months, several targets have been identified, and a fresh name has now been added to the mix.
Although players like Harry Kane and Julian Alvarez have been floated as targets, it is far from guaranteed that Barcelona will have the financial means to acquire a new number nine. As a result, Armando Gonzalez is one of the inexpensive choices under consideration.
Barcelona has already been in touch with Gonzalez’s representatives, according to ESPN. The 22-year-old, whose nickname is La Hormiga (The Ant), has been in sublime form for Chivas this season, with 17 goals in 24 matches, and this has alerted the La Liga leaders to his situation in Mexico.
Gonzalez is drawing interest from other teams around Europe in addition to Barcelona. In addition to West Ham United, Feyenoord, and Celtic being linked to a summer transfer for the Mexico international striker, CSKA Moscow is willing to pay $20 million to get him.
Mexican talent emerges as surprise Barcelona target
Gonzalez, a 22-year-old attacker, has already made a name for himself in the Mexican League. His impressive record of 17 goals and one assist in 24 games this season highlights his dependability and instinct in the box.
He has established a reputation for having powerful finishing, fast reflexes, and sharp movement, earning him the nickname “La Hormiga.” According to the site, he has been keenly watched by a number of teams that are famed for nurturing youthful talent in recent months.
West Ham, Celtic, and Feyenoord have all allegedly expressed interest in signing him and are investigating the necessary steps. But according to reports, Russia made the biggest financial push, offering CSKA Moscow $20 million for the player.
Chivas has not made a selling bid in response to that offer, and Gonzalez has not made any overt efforts to relocate to Europe. Soon, Hansi Flick will have to prepare for life without Robert Lewandowski, and a big-name acquisition is not feasible given Barcelona’s present budgetary constraints.
Compared to a top-tier European star, whose value may be four times greater, a proven but still-developing attacker like Gonzalez would be far less expensive.
