Barcelona Can Still Sign Memphis Depay - Juninho

Barcelona’s chances of signing Memphis Depay has not been extinguished just yet.

Olympique Lyon sporting director, Juninho told Telefoot that the winger could leave for Camp Nou on transfer deadline day.

“He has 12 months left on his contract, so…” Juninho said on Sunday. “He has a contract [agreed] with Barcelona, we’re not hiding from that.

“It’s possible that Memphis signs for Barcelona tomorrow [Monday], but that’s not certain. He’s the most likely player to leave. If he stays, he’ll help us.”

On Sunday, Depay did not feature in the 1-1 draw against Marseille in Ligue 1. Lyon boss Rudi Garcia said, “Memphis didn’t play because of his fitness and also because of what could happen tomorrow.”

Juninho’s comments do come as a shock since Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas has already said that neither Depay or Houssem Auoar will be leaving this summer. After falling short of his valuation, he notified interested parties that both players will remain in France for the upcoming season.

As Juninho mentioned, an agreement with Barca is already in place for Depay. If the La Liga giants are able to finalise on a price, Depay will be there’s come Monday.
