Bayern Munich blasts Barcelona over Joshua Kimmich pursuit

Joshua Kimmich is a free agent in 2025, and FC Barcelona’s new head coach Hansi Flick wants to sign him. Bild reported anonymous sources to support this claim. Ever since Xavi Hernandez, Flick’s predecessor, expressed interest in Kimmich to replace departing captain Sergio Busquets in the summer of last year, the player has been connected to the Catalans.

But Barca’s financial limitations prevented any realistic approach for the 29-year-old, and Xavi’s job was ultimately lost as a result of his complaints about the situation and how it affects the team’s ability to compete with fierce rivals Real Madrid.

Even though Bayern Munich is now willing to sell Kimmich, they won’t make it easy, according to SPORT, and these same financial difficulties make it more difficult for Barca to acquire him before the 2024–2025 season.

Barcelona received major boost in signing Joshua Kimmich

Earlier in the summer, Kimmich gained prominence as Barcelona’s top target; however, the prospect of a deal was shelved due to budgetary constraints. It will probably be reevaluated in 2025, though, if he becomes a free agent because his contract with Bayern Munich ends at the end of the current campaign. There’s a growing likelihood that will occur.

Le Parisien reports that Kimmich plans to stay with Bayern for the duration of his contract before deciding on his future. He does not expect to leave the team this summer. Given the uncertainties surrounding the status of Ilkay Gundogan and Frenkie de Jong, signing Kimmich on a free agent contract for Barcelona next summer would be a great move. But before this is taken seriously as a possibility, there is still a long way to go.
