Barcelona confirm Zaniolo to be in their transfer target list since January

Barcelona was one of the busiest clubs in Europe during the January transfer window despite not making any significant moves

Despite being related to numerous players, they were unable to approve any new hires because of Financial Fair Play rules. Joao Cancelo and Yannick Carrasco’s pursuit by Barcelona has already been well reported. However, it seems the club was also connected to a move for Nicolo Zaniolo in a different instance.

Claudio Vigorelli, the agent for Zaniolo, told the media that Barcelona was interested in the player in January but that they were unable to complete a bid because of budgetary constraints.

It is not surprising that Barcelona would be interested in an attacker like Zaniolo because the team was constantly searching for replacements, particularly when Memphis Depay left. A player who can play as an interior midfielder was another quality that coach Xavi Hernandez was seeking.

Given that the Italian could play both wide and as the number 10, Zaniolo seemed like a viable choice. He had a lot of experience playing at the top level of football, having made approximately 100 appearances in Serie A.

Due to the aforementioned reason, a transfer did not take place, and the playmaker eventually signed with Galatasaray for €15 million. Zaniolo has performed well since joining the Turkish powerhouses, scoring three goals in six games. Despite Fenerbahce being right behind them in second place and pressing for first place, he has helped the team maintain its lead in the league standings.
