The Dutch midfielder, who joined the Rossoneri in the summer of 2023, quickly became a key figure in Stefano Pioli’s squad, catching the attention of Europe’s top clubs.

Among them, Barcelona are believed to have shown concrete interest.

Sources close to the Catalan club suggest that Barcelona’s scouting team had been tracking Reijnders for several months due to his impressive performances in Serie A.

His technical ability, vision, and box-to-box energy made him an appealing option for Barca, who were looking to strengthen their midfield after Sergio Busquets’ departure.

However, the Blaugrana faced financial constraints, which made a summer bid challenging. Milan were also not keen on parting ways with the 25-year-old, having only signed him from AZ Alkmaar for €20 million.

Reijnders’ early impact at San Siro has solidified his place in the team, making a move away unlikely in the short term.

Barcelona’s interest, while not materializing into an offer, reflects the club’s focus on building a younger, dynamic squad to compete at the highest level.

Despite the obstacles, it wouldn’t be surprising if they keep Reijnders on their radar for future windows, especially given Xavi’s admiration for players with Reijnders’ skill set.

For now, Barcelona will have to wait, while Reijnders continues to make his mark at AC Milan. The Dutchman’s future, however, remains one to watch as his star continues to rise in European football.
