Barcelona wants to sign a new centre-forward.

The Blaugrana are still coming to terms after losing their all-time top scorer Lionel Messi to PSG earlier last week.

His departure has led to a shortage of attacking options as Ansu Fati, Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Aguero are all currently on the sidelines through injury.

Manager Ronald Koeman has said that the club needs to sign a new striker even though they are struggling financially.

“Seeing all the positions of the team we lack people in front. Ansu, Dembele, Aguero are missing. We lack there and that is why we have talked about the possibility of signing a forward to have more players and more competition. It all depends on whether we can sign,” Koeman told reporters.

Koeman has also urged Griezmann to step up now that Messi has officially left.

“I love working with him,” Koeman said at a news conference ahead of Sunday’s opening fixture against Real Sociedad. “He is a team player who always helps without the ball.

“He is always happy and encourages others. But he must take another step and be more effective. It will be more important without Leo, because he occupied that position.”
