Barcelona tightened their grip at the top of the La Liga table with a commanding performance in a 1-0 win over Mallorca — a match that will be remembered less for the scoreline and more for the sheer attacking onslaught the Catalans unleashed.

Barcelona Equal La Liga Shot Record in Dominant Win Over Mallorca

While the scoreboard at full-time may suggest a closely contested affair, the reality on the pitch told a different story.

Barcelona attempted a staggering 40 shots — a number that not only dwarfed Mallorca’s mere four efforts but also matched a long-standing La Liga record held solely by Real Madrid since 2011.

According to Opta, this is the joint-highest number of shots attempted in a La Liga match since data collection began in the 2003/04 season.

Real Madrid had previously set the benchmark with 40 attempts against Zaragoza in 2011. Now, Barcelona stand shoulder to shoulder with their fiercest rivals in the record books.

The reason? A heroic performance from Mallorca goalkeeper Leo Roman, who pulled off 12 remarkable saves — the highest tally by any shot-stopper in a single La Liga match this season.

Barcelona’s midfield dynamo Gavi was quick to praise Roman’s efforts after the match.

“He had an incredible game. Sometimes you just have to keep pushing and hope the breakthrough comes. We’re happy to have earned the win,” he said.

The lone goal, though enough to secure all three points, doesn’t reflect the sheer pressure Mallorca endured. Barcelona also managed 13 shots on target compared to Mallorca’s zero, underlining their dominance.

In the end, it was a night of near-total control and relentless attacking for Hansi Flick’s men — one that not only earned them a vital win but also a share in history alongside their eternal rivals.
