Samuel Umtiti might be leaving the Catalan club this summer.
The 26 year old still has many years remaining on his contract with Barcelona. However, due to Umtiti’s injury issues, the Blaugrana don’t mind letting him go.
The French defender is now barely featured in the starting 11, and even if that is the case, he mostly appears as a substitute. His exit speculation was addressed by Umtiti’s brother and agent Yannick Umtiti who spoke to foot01.com.
“Samuel doesn’t want to leave Barça this summer. However, taking into account the club’s wishes and their desire for change, it might be necessary to look at alternative options,” said Umtiti’s brother and agent.
His brother, however, revealed that if Umtiti is leaving, a good option for a move would be to Lyon. Umtiti moved to Barcelona from Lyon in 2016 and has a contract signed with the Catalan club till 2023.
“The rumour with Lyon is good but unfortunately, there’s very little chance of it happening.”
Lyon head coach Rudi Garcia also spoke of Umtiti’s possible move to Lyon. He feels that Lyon “would like” to have the defender but “does not believe that it will be possible.”
