In the previous summer transfer window, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, and Marcos Alonso were all acquired by Barcelona
It was anticipated that Kounde would join the team as the starting center-back, with Christensen serving as Eric Garcia’s backup. In contrast, it was anticipated that Marcos Alonso would take a backseat to Jordi Alba and Alejandro Balde.
However, none of it has turned out as planned. Kounde played right back for the bulk of the season, with Andreas Chrisentsen playing centre back alongside Ronald Araujo as the first choice. While Marcos Alonso spent little to no time as a left-back, he was first in line to replace the CBs.
However, Barcelona is making significant changes to their backline in preparation for the upcoming season. Due to his refusal to play there, Kounde is no longer anticipated to stay as the right-back and will instead face competition from Araujo and Christensen for a position.
Barcelona has therefore made the decision to search for a right-back. One of the players they are after is Joao Cancelo of Manchester City. Although the Portuguese star is presently on loan at Bayern Munich, he has no plans to stay in Germany after the current campaign. Maximilian Koch believes that it is quite improbable that the Bundesliga champions will return at this time.
Cancelo does not want to play in the Premier League again, the German reporter says. He doesn’t want to play for Manchester City or Arsenal. It appears that Man City is not interested in letting the player join them, even though Barcelona is one of the teams interested in him, although on a loan deal. Xavi acknowledged that the Catalans were considering signing him back in January, but the deal fell through.
