According to reports, Besiktas has made Barcelona an offer for Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Due to a back surgery during the summer, the 33-year-old Germany international has not played this season. However, he is already back in training, and a return to action is not too far off.
Since joining Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, Ter Stegen has made 422 appearances; however, since the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, he has only made nine appearances owing to injury issues.
The seasoned goalie lost his position as the team’s main stopper after missing time from September 2024 to April 2025 due to a severe knee injury. Over the summer, Barcelona recruited Joan Garcia as their new first choice, but the 24-year-old hasn’t played since the end of September because of a knee injury; Wojciech Szczesny has lately filled in for the Catalan powerhouses.
Ter Stegen needs a move in January
There is now a lot of conjecture around Ter Stegen’s future, as many teams are reportedly contemplating making approaches for the custodian during the January transfer window. Sport claims that Besiktas has offered to loan Ter Stegen for the second half of the 2025–26 season, with the option to purchase him permanently for €8 million (£7 million) the following summer.
Ter Stegen and Barcelona reportedly communicated with Besiktas during the most recent transfer window, but the German’s back injury prevented him from leaving. Ter Stegen is desperate to obtain regular play in the second half of the season so that he may represent Germany at the 2026 World Cup, and Galatasaray is also reportedly interested.
In order to alleviate their well-documented financial issues, Barcelona wants Ter Stegen’s pay to be removed from the books. They intend to sell the 33-year-old at some point in 2026, and they are ready to approve a first financing arrangement including him.
