According to ESPN, sources, Barcelona is considering a move for Federico Chiesa of Juventus as they race against time to sign a new winger before the transfer market ends. Chiesa, 26, has become a top choice for Barça to bolster their offensive line because of his desire to join and Juventus’ willingness to allow him to depart.
Barça’s top aim at the beginning of the summer was Nico Williams, a winger for Athletic Club in Spain. They have also been connected to Rafael Leão of AC Milan. Nonetheless, Barça is now compelled to look into less expensive options due to the expenses associated with possible agreements for Williams and Leão.
Williams, the player who led Spain to victory in the European Championship in July, has a release clause worth €58 million ($64.5 million), and sources told ESPN that Milan needs to pay €100 million to approve Leão’s move.
Federico Chiesa set for shock cut-price Barcelona transfer
However, there are substantial financial obstacles in the way of Barcelona’s interest in Chiesa. Although they haven’t received a formal offer yet, Juventus is willing to negotiate and is aware of Barcelona’s financial position. The Blaugrana are apparently unwilling to give more than €15 million (£13m/$17m) for Chiesa, a stark contrast to the €60m (£51m/$67m) Juventus paid for him.
Juventus is keen to keep Chiesa on board as his contract is slated to expire in the summer of 2023, thus they are willing to accept the €15 million minimum that would be given. Though he reportedly wants a raise to €7 million in pay, the Italian international now makes about €5 million a season at Juventus. Barcelona faces a dilemma in light of this number because they may have to sell players in order to satisfy Chiesa’s demands according to Financial Fair Play restrictions.
