Barcelona could face competition from Inter in their quest to sign Pavard this summer

FC Barcelona views its roster for the 2025–2026 season as mostly set at this stage, barring any significant changes. In spite of this, Barcelona is receiving offers from players who may match the desired profile, should a deal be possible.

Barcelona has fewer center-back alternatives now that Inigo Martinez has left, and a replacement may be signed before the summer transfer window ends in September. And for the past two years, they have been considering one of their possibilities.

Barcelona was looking for a new right-back in 2023 because they wanted to recruit someone who would let Jules Kounde play center-back, which was his natural position. And Benjamin Pavard, who was then with Bayern Munich, was one of the possibilities they took into account.

Ultimately, Barcelona chose not to sign Pavard, who would later sign with Inter. However, according to Sport, the France international has received an offer from the current La Liga winners, so he may eventually transfer to Catalonia.

Pavard fits the profile that Hansi Flick wants

As the former head coach of Bayern, Flick has managed Pavard; therefore, he knows him well. Additionally, as a versatile central defender who can also play full-back, the 29-year-old satisfies the Barcelona manager’s desired profile. And after turning down Neom SC of the Saudi Pro League in an attempt to stay in Europe, the player himself would be happy to transfer to Barcelona.

There are a lot of questions, though, about Pavard’s potential signing. In addition to having two players with comparable characteristics in Eric Garcia and Jules Kounde, Barcelona would find it difficult to pay him. It would be more sensible for a left-sided center-back to join as Martinez’s immediate successor if one were to arrive.

However, the source states that it is highly unlikely that Barcelona will make a bid for Pavard or any other player who would have to be registered with La Liga as a first-team player. A deal is thus quite unlikely.
