While Barcelona is currently engaged in the transfer market, preparations are also on for the summer. Before the 2026–2027 season begins, the Catalans intend to address a number of positions, and they presently have a decent chance of acquiring some of their targets.

Everything suggests that one of the biggest transfer sagas of the next summer will revolve around Nico Schlotterbeck. At the end of the season, the centre back for Borussia Dortmund is anticipated to depart. His resignation is all but certain due to a number of internal problems and his reluctance to extend a contract that expires in 2027.

The defender has drawn interest from a number of teams, with Barcelona being one of the top contenders to sign him. Even if Gerard Martin has done well in that position, Hansi Flick’s team is eager to recruit a left-sided centre defender after Inigo Martinez left. Barcelona would benefit much from Schlotterbeck’s entrance in a crucial role, but it won’t be easy because of the fierce rivalry for his services.

Although Barcelona boasts a very solid core of players, their lack of depth has been an issue in recent seasons. Flick has stated that he wants to add quality to his team, and he would undoubtedly get that with Vlahovic, Schlotterbeck, and Cancelo. However, considering their high price demands, it could be challenging to pay all three players.

Furthermore, Borussia Dortmund is reportedly looking for an offer of at least €70 million for Schlotterbeck amid increasing interest, according to BILD. In fact, Real Madrid has completely joined the competition to recruit the German international in the summer, in addition to Barcelona.

The 26-year-old seasoned defender is also of interest to Bayern Munich, the reigning Bundesliga winners. Dortmund wants to make sure they get the greatest transfer fee for a top player because it is more probable that Schlotterbeck won’t renew and there are more elite teams interested in his services.
