Barcelona is already making plans for the upcoming summer, and manager Hansi Flick is being consulted over their transfer strategy. The Blaugrana structure will stay the same, with the Director of Football Deco continuing to be in charge, following Joan Laporta’s re-election as President two weeks ago.

It implies that their transfer market strategies will continue to some extent, and Joao Cancelo seems to be a part of those plans. It has surfaced in recent weeks that, should Cancelo be able to consent to the expiration of his contract with Al-Hilal, Barcelona would try to sign him permanently. The Portuguese international’s contract with Saudi Arabia expires after one year.

Sport claims that Flick has approved Cancelo’s permanent signing. After a sluggish start, the German boss is certain that his skill with the ball and versatility make him a valuable asset to the club.

In order to close the deal, the 31-year-old would probably also need to drastically reduce his pay. Another option at left-back is the left-back for Bayer Leverkusen; however, it is stated that keeping Cancelo and adding a left-footed central defender are the first priorities.

Flick told Sport that he was eager to commend the seasoned full-back after Barcelona’s victory over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday. He gave a fantastic performance, particularly in the second half, and I would want to congratulate him. Because he was so concentrated on the game, he gave the squad his best and wanted to play till the very end.

The announcement follows reports that Barcelona may consider bids for Jules Koundé and Alejandro Balde, the two players who started the season as the team’s confirmed starters at right-back and left-back. Cancelo may give Barcelona greater leeway to ponder a deal because neither team has been able to play at their best this season.
