According to reports, Barcelona plans to use the summer transfer window to try to re-sign Alejandro Grimaldo, a 29-year-old Spanish international, from Bundesliga team Bayer Leverkusen.

According to a report from Sky Deutschland, FC Barcelona is interested in Alejandro Grimaldo. As the summer transfer window approaches, the recently crowned Copa del Rey champions are searching the market for a new left-back and have their sights set on the wing-back from Bayer Leverkusen. The Bundesliga winners, meanwhile, want to deal with the Spanish international for about €30–40 million.

Since joining Bayer Leverkusen in a Bosman move after his successful time with SL Benfica ended in July 2023, Alejandro Grimaldo has established himself as one of the best left-backs in the world.

In 45 games across all competitions, the Spanish international has helped score 16 goals, contributed 12 assists, and found the back of the net four times. Barcelona is one of the potential suitors fighting for Grimaldo’s signature heading into the summer transfer season, signaling that his performances for Bayer Leverkusen have not gone ignored.

Grimaldo linked with Barcelona switch

Alejandro Grimaldo is reportedly attracting interest from Barcelona, and negotiations are supposedly already underway. Alejandro Grimaldo of Bayer 04 Leverkusen is rumored to be returning to his former club. Sky Germany claims that FC Barcelona is investigating the prospect of rehiring its former young player.

Despite having a contract with Bayer 04 through 2027, Grimaldo is apparently free to go for a sum of between €30 and €40 million. The left-back never played for Barcelona as a senior, despite spending eight years at the renowned La Masia academy from 2008 to 2016.

Grimaldo publicly stated last month that he did not have long to return to Spain. Since Spain is, after all, my homeland, I aspire to visit it again in the near and medium future and experience what it’s like to be there.

“I was raised at La Masia, the club where I developed both as a player and as a person. I used to say as a child that I wanted to play for Barça in the first team, and that has always been my dream.”
