Barcelona wishes to part ways with Andreas Christensen

Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed his squad for the upcoming pre-season tour to Japan and South Korea—and made decisive cuts.

Flick Sends Message: No Place for Christensen and Romeu in Asia Trip

Among those not traveling are defenders Andreas Christensen and midfield anchor Oriol Romeu, alongside youngster Pau Victor.

Christensen, a centre-back once pivotal for Barça, now finds himself out of Flick’s plans.

Club sources say the board has already informed him he’s surplus, with fitness problems and heavy competition especially from Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, and Ronald Araujo—limiting his prospects.

That quartet forms the core of Barcelona’s defensive rebuild, leaving Christensen the odd one out.

Romeu and Pau Victor are also staying behind to explore their futures possibly including loans or permanent moves. For Romeu, reports suggest he might avoid the tour entirely if a transfer emerges soon.

By dropping these three, Flick seems to be lightening his squad ahead of a 26-player limit—and essentially drawing a line under players who don’t figure in his strategic setup.

Flick and Barcelona prefer a lean group focused on titles, not bloated with fringe players.

For Christensen, this announcement reinforces mounting expectations of a summer exit. Despite a contract running until 2027, no offers have yet materialized for the 29-year-old Dane—leaving him in limbo as the window moves on.

This bold reset sends a clear message: Barcelona is both firm on squad discipline and patient in its market approach.

As the world watches in Kobe and Seoul later this week, Christensen and company will watch too each finding their next step off the pitch.
