Azzedine Ounahi (22), a Moroccan midfielder for SCO Angers and one of the standout performers in the Qatar World Cup, has Barcelona’s attention
Azzedine Ounahi, a midfielder for Angers, has apparently surfaced as a potential transfer target for Barcelona. The 22-year-old has been outstanding for Morocco in the 2022 World Cup, starring in five matches against Croatia, Belgium, Canada, Spain, and Portugal to help his team get to the semifinals of the tournament.
Angers is now dead last in Ligue 1, and club president Sad Chabane said in an interview that if a club made an approach, it would be challenging to keep the player. We can never keep a player who wants to leave, Chabane added in reference to Ounahi and teammate Sofiane Boufal (29).
The ascent of Ounahi has been phenomenal. Only 18 months ago, the midfielder from Casablanca was representing Avranches in France’s N1, the third division. The Moroccan international moved to Angers after just one season in the N1, where he is now in his second season with the team. Following unexpected victory over Spain and Portugal, Ounahi is getting ready to play France in the World Cup semifinal on the international stage.
Barcelona might be persuaded to sign the player in the January transfer window.
