It’s no secret that Barcelona is looking to add a new midfielder this summer
Sergio Busquets is considering extending his contract at Camp Nou for at least another season, but the team needs to plan ahead in case the seasoned player decides to depart.
Giacomo Iacobellis claims that Marcelo Brozovic is one of the players Barcelona is seriously considering. The Inter Milan midfielder has been a goal for the team for a long, and in January, Camp Nou was even mentioned as a potential destination.
Barcelona values Brozovic highly since, at 30, he has a significant amount of experience. Additionally, he can provide the leadership qualities that may be essential in assisting Barcelona in replacing Busquets. Another important aspect is that Brozovic can take charge of midfield on his own and doesn’t need a second pivot. This might be useful, particularly if Barcelona choose to use Lionel Messi as the fourth midfielder.
With Frenkie de Jong and Pedri manning the inner positions, it would also improve Barcelona’s proficiency in the second line of press. Barcelona will only have to pay him €6 million in wages, which is a little less than what they gave Busquets in his extension offer and gives him more tactical freedom.
It will therefore be intriguing to monitor how events develop over the ensuing weeks. It is undeniable that Barcelona’s efforts to sign Brozovic may be significantly influenced by what happens to Busquets as he considers his next step in a distinguished career.
