According to reports, Barcelona is pursuing Son Heung-min on a free transfer. The Tottenham Hotspur star’s contract is scheduled to expire at the end of the current campaign. Son, 32, signed his last contract extension in 2021 and is currently in the last year of his North London contract. The January transfer market has opened, allowing him to negotiate a pre-contract arrangement with overseas clubs. Barcelona is one team interested in signing the forward, according to El Nacional, a Spanish newspaper. He is not the only player the team is reportedly interested in signing on a free transfer.
Joshua Kimmich and Leroy Sane of Bayern Munich are among the players on the list. Barcelona is after Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen as well. The Catalonian powerhouses, who have had financial difficulties recently, are considering free transfers. Although he is currently captain of Tottenham, Son has not performed well this year.
Barcelona target Tottenham captain
As Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has said before, Son is a vital member of his team, and the team does not want to risk losing one of its best players for nothing. As he approaches the last few months of his initially extended 2021 deal at Tottenham, the 32-year-old is currently free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a team outside the Premier League.
Despite their financial struggles, the Nou Camp is still regarded as one of the biggest clubs in the world and can provide consistent minutes in the Champions League, something Spurs can’t do right now; therefore, Son might be enticed to move there. In the meantime, Barcelona continues to battle to re-register Dani Olmo, which has become a humiliating circumstance for the La Liga leaders.
When Barca managed to obtain interim registrations that ended on December 31, they were eventually able to field Olmo and teammate Pau Victor. Their most recent attempt to re-register Olmo and Victor was also rejected, dealing the club yet another setback after their initial appeal on Monday failed.
