Lionel Messi will leave European football this summer
The Argentine has been the focus of a lot of rumours lately, with Barcelona, Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia, and Inter Miami all reportedly interested in signing him before the 2019–20 campaign. But it seems like the Major League Soccer team has captured their target. Messi has agreed to play for Inter Miami next season, according to Balague.
As Miguel Rico announced the choice and said that Messi had informed Barcelona of his future plans, that information was tweeted out at the same time.
The Argentine superstar was eager to finalise his choice this week, even though father and agent Jorge Messi on Monday indicated his son intended to play for Barcelona next season. Barcelona was unable to assure Messi that they would be able to sign him for the upcoming season due to their salary cap limits, which seems to have been the deciding factor.
Messi will receive a portion of the revenue that league sponsors will make as a result of his signing when Inter Miami offers him a historic contract. As part of the agreement, he will receive compensation from both Adidas and Apple TV.
Al Hilal were also interested in a deal, but it seems that Messi has chosen Miami because it is a more family-friendly city and the culture shock for his three children and partner Antonella Roccuzzo won’t be as severe there. Despite numerous public declarations from different Barcelona officials, it seems Messi’s desire to close a deal and their reluctance to provide him with guarantees have prevented the Blaugrana from pulling off a spectacular comeback.
