Barcelona wants Eric Garcia as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 19-year old has been considered as a long-term replacement for the ageing Gerard Pique.

But Pep Guardiola is confident that Garica will sign a new long-term deal with Manchester City.

It is believed that the club entered into contract negotiations before the coronavirus pandemic and it is expected to restart now.

The 19-year old has featured in 13 games for City and the club is preparing to treble his wages.

Pique who also graduated from the La Masia academy is nearing the end of his career.

Eric Garcia has grown up playing the Barcelona way and his presence would help overcome the defensive complication Barca endured last year.

“If they want him they must call Txiki,” Guardiola said.

“We are going to try to convince him to stay here for many, many, many years.

“I’m confident he will stay but at the end of the day it’s his decision. He knows we want him.

“But it is similar to Leroy [Sane]. We wanted him but he didn’t want to stay and we cannot do anything else.

“He knows, his agent knows, and his family knows that we want him. He’s young and if Barcelona want him, they have to call Txiki.”

Pique who also graduated from the La Masia academy is nearing the end of his career.

Garcia has made eight appearances for City since the resumption of action on June 17.
