Barcelona midfielder Oriol Romeu set to return to Girona on loan deal

Oriol Romeu is set to undergo a medical this weekend ahead of his return to Michel’s side.

Barcelona have announced the departure of one more player as their midfielder Oriol Romeu is set to return to Girona on a loan deal. The Spanish giants paid a reported €3.4m to sign the 32-year-old from Girona last summer with Romeu putting pen to paper on a three-year contract.

Romeu was recruited following the departure of Sergio Busquets. The veteran star left the Catalan capital at the end of the 2022-23 season. Romeu failed to deliver under Xavi and made 17 starts in 37 appearances in all competitions.

To find a new challenge, Romeu is now set to leave Barcelona to return to fellow Girona after just one year away from Montilivi. His former club have reached an agreement to re-sign the experienced midfielder on a loan deal.

The player is set to undergo a medical this weekend ahead of his return to Michel’s side. The Catalan giants have also confirmed that Romeu has left the club’s training camp.

Girona are set to sign the 32-year-old as a replacement for Alex Garcia, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer. He was key in Girona’s best campaign as they qualified for the Champions League.
