Ruben Neves, a midfielder for Wolves, is close to finalising a summer transfer to Barcelona

Neves has been at Wolves for six years and has made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s most dependable midfielders. However, he is about to quit the Premier League team.

Since last year, Barça has been frequently mentioned in connection with the Portuguese international. While a transfer did not occur back then, it appears like Neves will obtain his desired transfer this time around.

Due to his close friendship with Neves’ agent Jorge Mendes, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has been a strong supporter of the change. Although the technical staff and manager Xavi Hernandez have expressed serious concerns about his ability to function as a pivot midfielder, it appears that Laporta’s demands will prevail and the Portuguese star will join the team.

Previous sources have indicated that Neves and the La Liga winners have verbally agreed upon personal terms. According to the aforementioned source, Barcelona and Wolves have reached an agreement to transfer Neves in a €30 million deal. Ansu Fati, a forward and a client of Mendes, has previously been discussed joining the operation in a possible player-plus-cash transaction, but he does not want to leave Barça for Wolves.

Neves will reportedly sign a single contract worth €30 million with the La Liga champions, which would be rather cost-effective for the team given their current financial condition. Sergio Busquets’ replacement at the club could be someone else, however, as Xavi and his staff do not view the Portuguese star as a pivot midfielder. Neves, who is set to be traded this summer, may replace Franck Kessie as an interior midfielder in the meanwhile.
