Barcelona plot complicated transfer strategy to land Inter star Martinez

Barcelona are desperate to land a striker in the summer and now it is getting evident in their transfer strategy.

The Catalan club have spent quite a bit of money in the transfer window in the last few years.

Granted, they earned a world record fee from the sale of Neymar but they had already spent 1.5 times that amount on two players in Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.

Unfortunately for Barcelona neither of those two players were able to click and while Dembele is still too young to give up on, Coutinho’s future at Barcelona is believed to be over.

This has now seen the Catalan club adopt a new strategy. Given that they have already spent over and beyond, they now need to make funds available to bring in new players – reportedly their number one target Lautaro Martinez.

The Inter Milan hitman is in hot form and wont come for cheap as his release clause is set at €111 million. So Barcelona are planning to wait and sell Coutinho to Bayern at the end of season for €120 million to fund the move for Martinez.

However, Bayern if anything have made it clear that they will not be paying such money for Coutinho and will terminate his loan.

This will leave Barcelona in a pickle as they will have to raise an amount close to €111 million for a washed up player and unfortuantely their whole plan to revamp an ageing and depleted attack is based on this masterstroke by the Barcelona board.
