According to SPORT, which cited unnamed sources, FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta declared during a board meeting on Friday that the team had inked a lucrative new sponsorship agreement with Nike. A deal between the La Liga soccer team and the American apparel company was also revealed by Catalan radio station RAC1, which also referenced unnamed sources.
The new agreement, which is essentially a contract extension, was authorized by the board of directors, according to RAC1, and it now requires Nike’s final approval and signature. According to reports, the arrangement will be enhanced by about $51.4 million (€48 million) annually between 2024 and 2028. Then, after 2028, an additional $62 million (€58 million) to $64 million (€60 million) year.
Barcelona reaches €1.7 billion Nike contract agreement
The arrangement will be the highest-paid sponsorship contract in soccer, worth $1.82 billion (€1.7 billion) over 14 years at an average of about $129.5 million (€121 million) a year, according to Culemania director Victor Malo, who confirmed RAC1’s news on X, now known as Twitter. According to Malo, who cited unnamed sources, the agreement was supposed to be finalized in a week, but on Thursday night, things “sped up” and Laporta requested an urgent board meeting to approve the deal.
The agreement, which Malo claims includes a signing bonus of $10.7 million (€10 million), will also require final approval from Barcelona members. Should the agreement be finalized, it would be ideal for Barcelona, which needs to re-register summer additions Andreas Christensen, Dani Olmo, and Pau Victor.
