Barcelona President Backs Ronald Koeman To Deliver Trophies

Ronald Koeman has the backing of the new Barcelona president, Joan Laporta.

“Ronald, you have our confidence,” he said, addressing the coach.

“We want to get back to making history in the Champions League, but this year we need to go out and try to win the league title and the Copa del Rey

Laporta will also open talks with Lionel Messi over a new contract. The Argentine’s contract ends in June and he will need to be convinced into staying.

“We will, for example, try to convince Leo to stay at the club,” Laporta said during the speech. “Sorry Leo… I will do my best and he knows it!

“We’re going to try, of course, to convince him to stay here because he’s the best player in history. Sorry, but I love you and Barcelona also loves you. If this stadium were full, you wouldn’t want to go.”

Messi continues to lead Barcelona’s attacking unit with 28 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. Without him, the forward line has no consistent scoring threat even from prominent figures like Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele or Philippe Coutinho.

There is still a possibility of convincing the 33-year-old into staying. He is being approached by Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
