Paris Saint-Germain has formally stated that Lionel Messi will depart this summer

At the end of June, the Argentine superstar’s lucrative two-year contract at Parc des Princes would expire, and it had been obvious for some time that no extension would be reached.

Messi has been linked with high-profile moves to the United States or Saudi Arabia, where the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner currently serves as an ambassador to the country’s tourism board, two years after his painful departure due to new LaLiga spending restrictions. Barcelona is hoping to secure Messi’s fairytale return to the Camp Nou.

“After two seasons with PSG, the adventure between Leo Messi and Paris Saint-Germain will come to an end at the end of the 2022-23 campaign,” PSG said in a statement on Saturday, accompanied with a video of the player bidding the team farewell.

The Club sends Leo its sincere best wishes for continued success over the remainder of his career.

“I want to thank the club, the city of Paris, and its people for these two years,” remarked Messi. I’m hoping for the best for you in the future.
