Barcelona face a crucial summer as they look to strengthen Hansi Flick’s squad with two superstar signings.
Barcelona need funds – and three defenders could make way
The club wants to bring in a top central defender and a elite attacker, with Alessandro Bastoni and Julian Alvarez leading their wishlist. However, financial limits still block their path.
Barcelona hope to return to La Liga’s 1:1 rule before July’s transfer window opens. That would ease player registrations, but it will not provide enough room to land both Bastoni and Alvarez. As a result, the club must raise funds through major sales.
According to Sport, Barcelona now stand ready to listen to offers for three first-team defenders this summer: Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo and Alejandro Balde.
Interest from several Premier League clubs has grown in recent weeks, and Barcelona’s hierarchy has made their position clear. They will accept a deal if an unrejectable proposal arrives at their offices.
The club does not see any of the three as a necessary departure. Flick will continue to count on all of them if they stay.
But Barcelona recognise that all three have lost prominence this season. Kounde and Balde have struggled to maintain a high performance level, while Araujo has mostly played a squad role under the German coach.
Inside the Camp Nou, a growing feeling suggests the club could upgrade on each of them.
If Barcelona sell one or two of these defenders, they would need to replace them with fewer players. That would allow the club to channel extra funds towards the potential deals for Bastoni and Alvarez.
Barcelona’s summer now hinges on smart exits. The club will not push any of the three out, but the door is now open. A huge offer could change everything.
