Despite having already signed three players this summer and having also agreed to a contract for Vitor Roque to join in 2024, Barcelona is still looking to bolster Xavi Hernandez’s roster
The need for a right-back is urgent, and Xavi doesn’t currently appear to have any natural candidates in mind (Sergino Dest is probably going somewhere else). This may soon change, though, as Barcelona has reportedly restarted their effort to recruit Real Valladolid’s Ivan Fresneda, according to Relevo.
The representatives of Fresneda met with Barcelona earlier this month, although they had recently lost interest. They now seem to have reignited it, and a settlement will probably be negotiated during the next weeks.
Following Real Valladolid’s relegation from La Liga, Fresneda is anticipated to depart the team this summer, and Barcelona will be hoping that they can reach an agreement to sign the highly regarded 18-year-old player despite their dire financial circumstances.
Fresneda wants a move to Barça despite the interest of clubs in the Premier League, the Bundesliga, and Serie A; he has even turned down several other offers while waiting for one from his ideal team.
The 18-year-old’s agents have already had a few meetings with Deco, the new sporting director of Barcelona, who has given Fresneda the go-ahead. However, Mateu Alemany and Xavi themselves have reservations and would rather to wager on a more seasoned defender, such as Joao Cancelo.
