SPORT, citing unnamed sources, claims that FC Barcelona is extremely close to making a significant addition. On the final day of the summer transfer window in 2023, Joao Cancelo signed a loan deal with Barcelona.
With the exception of costly errors in pivotal moments like the Champions League quarterfinal second leg loss to Paris Saint-Germain, his tenure was largely successful. However, on June 30, the club said goodbye to both Cancelo and fellow Jorge Mendes client Joao Felix as their temporary contracts came to an end.
However, it is generally known that Mendes’ close friend President Joan Laporta wants to turn the Portuguese couple into permanent Blaugrana stars. SPORT claims that Barcelona and City have held negotiations in the US, where they are presently doing their preseason tours.
Barcelona’s escape plan to sign Joao Cancelo from Man City
Barca is reportedly feeling reciprocally for Cancelo, as they have expressed their desire for him to stay with the team. They will only pursue the player, though, if a loan option is offered; City is hoping to sell him long-term. Barcelona is willing to wait patiently to sign Cancelo, according to SPORT reports.
The Spanish team believes that City will not budge from their asking price of €30 million, and they are content to wait for the transfer window to close before acting on this demand. Director of Sport Deco intends to hold off until later in the transfer window, when Pep Guardiola’s resolve to cut ties with Cancelo would compel City to accept a new loan arrangement.
