Barcelona sporting director Eric Abidal has been sacked.

Earlier on Tuesday, FC Barcelona announced the letting go of their technical secretary and released a short message on their website. Eric Abidal was sacked just a day after the Catalan club sacked the head coach Quique Setien.

“Barcelona and Abidal have reached an agreement for the ending of the contract that united the two parties,” a short statement read.

“The club would publicly like to thank him for his professionalism, commitment, dedication and the close and positive nature of his relationship with all aspects of the Blaugrana family.”

Abidal’s position shall be taken over by Ramon Planes – Abidal’s second choice technical secretary.

Barcelona has further rolled out the dates for the next presidential elections – to be held after March 15, 2021.

“After considering all options, the board consider this to be the most viable date for the aforementioned elections,” a statement read.

“The board understand that an immediate call for elections is not feasible, given that the league season will begin on the weekend of September 12, 2020, and the situation arising from the COVID-19 crisis – both economically and socially.

“Consequently, the club will continue to implement the plan to reverse the sporting and economic situation, based on profound changes to the first team, plus a redefined budget to deal with the new situation caused by COVID-19, before the end of the current mandate.”
