Lamine Yamal is at the core of a recent dispute between FC Barcelona and the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF). For Spain’s forthcoming World Cup qualifying matches against Georgia and Turkey, the Barça forward has been removed from the team.
In a statement on Monday, the RFEF expressed its surprise and discomfort over a medical operation carried out on the athlete without first informing the medical staff of the national team.
The FC Barcelona player had undergone an “invasive radiofrequency procedure” earlier that morning to treat persistent discomfort in his pubic area, according to the Federation’s statement, which was communicated to the RFEF’s medical services at 1:47 p.m. CET on Monday, November 10, the first official day of the training camp, though players were supposed to report later that afternoon.
The governing board clarified that Spain’s medical staff had not been informed of the therapy in advance and had only received a report at 10:40 p.m. that evening suggesting a seven- to ten-day rest period.

The RFEF made the decision to remove Lamine Yamal from the national team call-up for the forthcoming international matches due to the situation and “always prioritising the player’s health, safety, and well-being.”
The young Barça player was wished “a speedy and full recovery” at the end of the message. “On Monday, November 10, the first day of the national team’s official training camp, at 1:47 p.m. CET, the RFEF Medical Services learnt that player Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure that same morning to treat his pubic discomfort. They would like to express their surprise and discomfort.
The medical personnel of the National Team were not informed beforehand of this surgery; they were only informed at 10:40 p.m. CET that evening of the medical suggestion to rest for seven to ten days.
