Following a stabbing incident at a car park in Rocafonda, near Barcelona, police in Catalonia have detained three individuals, including Mounir Nasraoui, the father of Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal. Police told the Guardian that Nasraoui was repeatedly stabbed on Wednesday and was taken to a neighbouring hospital late in the evening. With a serious but stable state, he is still in the hospital.

According to the police, they anticipate making one more arrest on Thursday. Although officials first stated that those who were detained will be charged with attempted homicide, they later disclosed on Thursday that the investigation is still ongoing and that it is too soon to determine whether charges will be brought.

The AFP news agency reported that Catalan police have confirmed the arrest of at least three persons. After being admitted to a hospital in Barcelona in a critical state, Mr. Nasraoui’s condition is now reportedly stabilized.

The Rocafonda neighbourhood, where Yamal grew up, is where the alleged attack occurred. The Spanish daily El Pais claimed that Mr. Nasraoui got into a fight with several individuals he met while out for a stroll with his dog earlier in the day.

A few hours later, in a parking lot, he was accosted by the same group and stabbed “multiple times.” It is presently unknown why the person was stabbed. Mr. Nasraoui was expected to stay in the hospital for two or three days under observation, according to a post on the sports website Relevo. Spain’s youngest-ever player, Lamine Yamal, shone at Euro 2024, winning the title of Young Player of the Tournament.
