River Plate winger Ian Subiabre is the most recent name to be heavily associated with Barcelona, which continues to prioritize youth in its long-term transfer planning. The 18-year-old prospect has caught Barça’s attention as the team continues to scout some of the most promising young players in South America, according to TNT Sports (via Mundo Deportivo).
Although Subiabre has already made 18 appearances and scored one goal for River Plate’s senior squad, Barcelona is excited by both his early success and his profile. Being a left-footed attacker who can play on either wing, he offers versatility that is ideal for the demands of the current game.
His reputation has been further enhanced by his impressive performance in the most recent South American Under-20 Championship, when he scored three goals in six games. One of Argentina’s main players at the forthcoming Under-20 World Cup in Chile is expected to be the winger. Barcelona is anticipated to send scouts to keep a close eye on the competition, and Subiabre will undoubtedly be one of the players they keep an eye on.
Barca set sights on Argentine talent with contract expiring in December
The youthful player has made 18 senior appearances for the Argentine powerhouses, scoring one goal in those games, and has played 30 times for River Plate’s reserve squad, scoring seven goals.
Aside from his enormous potential, Barcelona may be interested in Subiabre because his current contract with River Plate expires on December 31, 2026.
Franco Mastantuono, another River Plate gem, had previously piqued Barcelona’s interest, but earlier this summer, the young player signed with Real Madrid.
Whether the Blaugrana are ready to follow through on their rumored interest in Subiabre and make a firm play for him soon is still up in the air.
Given the Catalans’ current financial predicament and their undivided attention on finalizing their outstanding player registrations, any deal, if any, is probably going to wait until the January transfer window.
