Memphis Depay cannot be criticised, according to Lyon president, Jean Michel Aulas.
The winger is in the final few months of his contract with suitors Barcelona monitoring him.
Ronald Koeman wants to add him to his squad at Camp Nou. Depay turned down an extension in anticipation of a move but has not let it affect his performances.
“I have nothing to criticise him for,” said Aulas “I will respect his decision. If he goes to a bigger club than Lyon, he’ll be right. If he stays this will mean that we’ve been a great adventure for him and we have won something.”
Koeman is undoubtedly a huge fan of Depay. Hence, the urgency to sign him and why he wants Depay even over Sergio Aguero.
“He’s being a good captain,” added Aulas. “He speaks a lot to the other players in the squad. In recent years we’ve helped Memphis have the best platform possible for him to get to and improve his level from the 2014 World Cup, where he broke out.”
Barcelona are plotting lot of changes but it all could depend on Lionel Messi’s future. If the Argentine leaves after finishing his contract, Barca could have the funds available to make more wholesale changes.
