According to sources, RB Leipzig has granted Manchester City and Barcelona an extension to activate Dani Olmo’s contract release clause. Olmo has become a target for a number of elite teams this summer. City is keeping an eye on him, as 90Min knows that Barcelona made a verbal bid for the gifted midfield player not too long ago.
Barcelona would rather have a different payment plan because they are unable to pay Olmo’s €60 million (£51 million) release clause in full, but this could allow City to sign the 26-year-old by making Leipzig a better offer.
According to Diario Sport, Deco told Olmo’s agent during their meeting this week how much the squad would love to have him as a crucial member. Luis Diaz, Nico Williams, and Olmo are among the left-sided attackers that Barcelona is rumoured to be targeting this summer.
New Barcelona boss Hansi Flick prefers Dani Olmo
It’s also reported that Flick, who knows Olmo well from his days in the Bundesliga, is in favour of signing him. Fabrizio Romano stated that Olmo’s release clause was scheduled to expire on July 15. Nevertheless, this has been rescheduled for July 20th instead, as he is still with Spain at Euro 2024 ahead of the final on Sunday.
Olmo is preparing for this weekend’s final in Berlin, where Spain will play England, who will feature Kyle Walker, John Stones, and Phil Foden from City. He and Lamine Yamal of Barcelona both scored as La Roja defeated tournament favourites France 2-1 in their semi-final on Tuesday.
