Lionel Messi Could Finish Career In Argentina – Javier Mascherano

Lionel Messi Could Finish Career In Argentina - Javier Mascherano

Lionel Messi has been tipped to finish his career in Argentina and not in Barcelona by former teammate, Javier Mascherano.

Messi’s current contract is set to run out in June 2021. There have been talks of an extension but nothing has been finalized yet.

The 32-year-old is still firing on all cylinders for Barca and continues to be their most influential player. He has collected 14 goals and 6 assists in 15 La Liga appearances this season. While his professional nemesis, Cristiano Ronaldo seems to be slowing down from his dominant self in Italy with Juventus, Messi is still shouldering Barca’s hopes through this tricky spell.

Mascherano has not ruled out a reunion with Messi back in Argentina. The former is currently on the books of Estudiantes de La Plata. He said, “Anything can happen in the world of football and it depends on his desire to play in Argentina. There’s also the family aspect when he decides to live over here. These are personal issues and no one else can influence them. If he decides to come here in the future, it’d be a huge jump in quality for our league and the country.”

Mascherano also pointed just how big Messi’s return would be to Argentina. He added, “(My return) would be nothing compared to Leo’s. He’s the best player in the world.”

Todibo On What He Has Picked Up Training With Lionel Messi

Jean-Clair Todibo revealed Lionel Messi is “protected” in training to avoid injuries.

The French defender secured a loan move to Schalke this month after spending less than a year at Camp Nou.

He will be looking to impress his new employers with what he has learnt playing against Messi. He told German publication, Bild, “I learnt a lot training with Messi and sometimes I even got the ball off him. But Messi is protected carefully because no one wants to injure him.”

The centre-back also explained how he came around to accepting a move to Schalke. He said, “I spoke with Harit on the phone. He was really enthusiastic about Schalke and that influenced my decision. I asked Rakitic about the club too.”

The defender reveals that he speaks to teammate Harit in French, Omar Mascarell in Spanish and the others in English. “I also know a few sentences in Germany because I have distant family from here.”

Lothas Matthaus said, “He’s the best centre back I’ve seen in a long time.” However, Todibo refuses the idea that such a statement could put any pressure on him. He replied, “It doesn’t bother me, I don’t feel under pressure. I want to be one of the best players in the world in my position.”

Did Barca make a mistake letting this young defender walk?

Barcelona have not given up on their chances of signing Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, the player has already committed his future to the club at North London.

“I would also like to react to some of the rumours that are going around about me in the media,” he told the match day programme before the match against Leeds.

“People like making up stories and they should focus on what’s happening on the pitch. They talk too much and it does my head in! I am the Arsenal captain.

“I love this club. I am committed to it and desperate to bring it back to the top, where it belongs.”

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta also gave his opinion.

“I was very pleased to read those comments,” Arteta said.

“He knows exactly what I think about him and obviously he is a massive player for us.

“But at the moment we are in the middle of the season and we have not discussed anything further on that.

“My intention is to keep Auba because I know that if we keep Auba with us, we are going to be stronger and closer to winning football matches.”

Arteta was further asked if Aubameyang will be getting an extension.

“I don’t know. We have not discussed that but I am confident that he is very happy here because that is what he said.”

Barcelona might have changed manager but nothing much has changed in tactics, according to their new boy Frenkie De Jong.

The Barcelona midfielder has recently come from Ajax last season and has found it tough to get going so fast.

However, with the change of manager, many fans are expecting now De Jong to take up midfield responsibilities for Barcelona.

He is anyway believed to be the long term successor for Sergio Busquets.

“He doesn’t ask anything concrete of me. The idea he has is the same as Valverde, the style of Barcelona possession.

The only things that have changed are small details, but the intention is to have the ball.

It seems like I’ve adapted easily, and I’m happy, but I know I can do much better. I also believe we have a lot of room to evolve as a team and we’ll be better throughout the season.”

I want to win every trophy but, if I had to choose one, I’d choose the Champions League, although I want to lift LaLiga and the Copa del Rey,” he said.

Last year, Barcelona-Ajax would have been a beautiful final. Hopefully, I can be there this year.”

Barcelona in talks for loan deal for Valencia striker Rodrigo Moreno

Barcelona are understood to be negotiating with Valencia to bring striker Rodrigo Moreno in on loan for the remainder of the season. La Blaugrana have been on the lookout for a new forward all season, but Luis Suarez’s predicted four-month absence through injury.

A number of names have been considered, but Sport claim that Barcelona have settled on Rodrigo. However, given they aren’t blessed with a large transfer funds this winter, they want to take the Spaniard on a six-month loan with an option to buy in the summer. Rodrigo is believed to have informed Barcelona that he would be willing to head to Camp Nou this month, and negotiations are well underway to try and make it happen.

To try and get this deal over the line, Barcelona are prepared to let Valencia take one of their players on loan in return, but there is no mention of which players have been mentioned. Mundo Deportivo add that Rodrigo is represented by agent Jorge Mendes, who just so happens to be a close adviser to Valencia president Peter Lim as well.

Both Rodrigo and Barcelona are optimistic that Mendes will be able to help complete this deal, having already been crucial in their previous negotiations with Valencia which brought André Gomes to the club. A deal for Rodrigo is seen as far simpler than any potential moves for either RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner or Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, both of whom are close to the top of Barcelona’s wish list.

Quique Setien's Furious Response To Ibiza Close Call

Barcelona avoided an embarresment against third division Ibiza on Wednesday night.

Despite dominating possession at 78%, the Blaugrana found themselves down 1-0 after only nine minutes.

Antoine Griezmann saved some face by scoring in the  78th minute and then collecting the winner late into injury time. Barca did progress to the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey but with little pride. Quique Setien was absolutely livid with his players’ performance and did not hold back in his criticisms after the game.

“I did not like the team. I would have preferred things another way,” he told reporters. “But in a stadium like this, it is harder. They were aggressive and intense in defence. It has not been easy.

“I would have loved for us to have been more precise and to have played better. But from here we will take away conclusions for the future. It is when you do things badly that you can improve. I give Ibiza a lot of credit, they played a great game. It was not easy for us. It was very tough. They also went a goal ahead, which makes things harder.

“The first thing we are doing is seeing the players in different positions. [Fati] has a lot of talent. We will see how he progresses. He will get more starting time as long as he keeps developing.”

Barcelona will have to quickly forget Wednesday’s display as they travel to seventh-placed Valencia on Saturday.

Barca are in the lookout for a new striker.

And the Gabonese is on the shortlist.

Arsenal are facing a tough battle to keep striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club. The captain has a contract running until June 2021, but he is yet to meet with the board to discuss a new deal.

The Arsenal directors also find themselves at crossroads, for they can’t make up their minds over whether to keep Aubameyang or cash in on him. Surprisingly, they might get the chance to do the latter, as according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keeping an eye on the situation and could move to sign him as early as in January.

The Blaugrana see the Arsenal striker as the perfect replacement for Luis Suarez, who will miss the remainder of the season due to a serious knee injury. They believe that Auba’s close relationship with Ousmane Dembele and Samuel Umtiti may be crucial in efforts to lure him away from the Emirates Stadium.

Antoine Griezmann is Barca’s only attacking option at the moment, and they also have few other names shortlisted apart from the Gabon international.

Barcelona Could End Up With €160m Harry Kane

Barcelona Could End Up With €160m Harry Kane

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to part ways with Harry Kane.

Barcelona are obviously interested in the English forward who could cost upwards of €160m in this market.

There is no doubt the Catalan giants will have to break their transfer record to pry away Kane from North London. Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy is known to be a hard negotiator and will hardly allow his most valuable asset to leave for anything lower than the asking price.

Barcelona’s technical staff admire Kane’s qualities. There is an ongoing search for the club’s next big number nine as Luis Suarez turns 33 in a couple of days. The Uruguayan has hinted that he would step aside if a better player enters through those Camp Nou doors this season.

Kane is currently on the sidelines but there is little to no possibility that the striker will move midway through the campaign. If he was to opt for a Barca switch, it would be over the summer.

The reason why Spurs are even considering the sale of Kane is because of their own financial situation. The cost of building a new stadium will need to covered somehow so that they continue to run on a profit. However, selling the 27-year-old will not go down will the club’s supporters.
